Inspired by Klimt

I love the Klimt aesthetic! I must admit, these paintings are more copies than they are inspired by Gustav Klimt’s work, but I still want to show them to you. ‘The Kiss’ (1907-1908) is a work I have adored since I was a teenager. It often reminded me of my grandparents and their love for each other: a vulnerable, soft, sweet kind of love.

The other painting is inspired, based on Klimt’s portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, also called ‘The woman in gold’ (1903-1907). Klimt used oil paint and gold leaf for his paintings, I had to limit myself to acrylics and acrylic gold paint. If the sunlight touches the painting, however, the gold does shine in a way it doesn’t by just looking at it.

I adore the gold aesthetic with the mozaic on the background and the clothes. This painting style has influenced me as an illustrator for a few of my original works, such as Connected in the Universe and Anna’s garden.
