  • Huid

    Huid

  • Funeral announcement

    Funeral announcement

I received the honour of illustrating for a funeral announcement. This letter contained the death announcement and funeral invitation for the loved ones of the departured. The design is based on a photo of the departed and inspired by her love of flowers. The illustration was used for the funeral announcement letter and for the memorial card.

  • Birth announcement #2

    Birth announcement #2

This year another baby gave me the opportunity to create another birth annoucement card. I took inspiration from a postcard I found at a store depicting an older couple on swings having fun. I went a little overboard with the intensity of the colour scheme, but the parents loved it!

Here you can see the process from sketch to print:

The family has one child who turned 3, one dog and one rabbit.

I painted the background with ecoline and aquarel:

I painted the scene with aquarel and gouache.

The parents order a preview print through the printing house, but we decided on some adjustments together.

    These are the final designs:

And here are some more photos of the projects result:

  • Sad city

    Sad city

This time around I got to create an illustration for someone else’s story! Thanks to Verhaal van de Maand, I created this illustration of a rather sad city. I read the story and got inspired by the existential tone, the longing for anarchy, the rejection of our post-modern world without connections, without purpose.

The story ‘Tropic of Concrete’ is written by Brian Jones and published on 22nd of june 2025 as the winner of the june short story competition.

The illustration is made with blue pen and aquarel on paper.

Thanks to Verhaal van de Maand!

  • By the sea

    By the sea

While on a writing residence in Oostend, Belgium, I sat myself down at the pier and made a little painting of the view. The people at the Belgian beach are an interesting bunch, a collection of people from different economic classes, ethnicities, occupations. I could watch them for hours!
I used pen and aquarel paint on paper.

I recommend a glass of white porto.
